Vibe Killers
8Vibe Killers are a two brothers who have been delivering big things over the course of 2015, and we super excited that we managed to secure an exclusive interview and guestmix with the boys. With tracks such ‘Cheeno’, ‘Kave Rave’ and ‘Sunrise’ doing the damage, and gaining support from artists such as Jamie Jones, Richy Ahmed and wAFF. Looks like the Vibe killers will be having an exciting 2016.
2015, has seen Vibe Killer’s stamp their mark with a string of solid releases ‘Cheeno’, ‘Kave Rave’ and ‘Sunrise’ to name a few. Please could you tell why this partnership has been so successful, and how the project all came about’
Hi pal, well were brothers so we’ve been either playing or making music since we were in our early teens. I don’t see us as successful yet to be honest, but hopefully 1 day!
Your ‘Killer Vibe’ imprint has so far only seen productions from yourselves. Do you have any plans to sign and release any other artist material’ Could you let us into your future plans for the label’
Yeah mate, we set this label up as a platform to get our own stuff out there. Sending demos to labels is hard work, they get sent so many that its hard for them to get back in touch. The first few releases have just been our tracks, and we will keep originals that way going forward. We are getting tracks remixed now though, the first is Andrea Di Rocco who is mixing one of the tracks on our Hypnotised EP which will be out in December. Were a big fan of Andreas stuff, we still play his track ‘The Past Present’ in our sets: https://www.youtube.com/watch’v=1BTpdFZvzcg, were really looking forward to what comes back. We aim to have a remix for each release going forward.
It obvious that you guys have some real chemistry when it comes to production. But who brings what to the table and how do go about making a track’
Mickey is more technical than me, he owns the iMac and the TR8 and all the other toys, i tend to come up with ideas. Although I (mark) have made stuff on my own, which was more housey under the name ‘Mark Horsey’ https://www.youtube.com/watch’v=h22QhgDwmW0.
Jamie Jones, Richy Ahmed and Waff have all been supporting the Vibe Killer’s sound. Additionally, ‘Sunrise’ has been also getting huge support from B Traits on her Friday night Radio 1 show. But what would you say was your biggest achievement in 2015′
Its got to be all of the above. They’re all really big names in the game, and to get videos / texts / inboxes off people with links showing these guys playing our stuff is what its all about for us. Hearing our track on Radio 1 was next level, we’ve listened to Radio 1 for years, we never thought one of our tracks would be on there.
End of November see’s you guys performing a huge gig for Audiowhore at the Mint Warehouse in Leeds. DJ Majesty and Rich Wakley are on the bill also, but are any other artists throughout the year that you feel deserve a mention’
Yeah man were really looking forward to Mint, we’ve been sending Majesty our stuff for a while now, and we had a release on his label earlier in the year. His parties look buzzing. Artist wise, theres so many mate. We love Detlefs stuff, Leigh D Oliver is constantly making amazing music, Jey Kurmis tracks are mint too.
Also is there any particluar artists, that would be a dream collbaration for you guys’
Wow, so many man. I think Guti would put a nice touch to one of our remixes!
The exclusive mix see’s all your own productions, but are there any stand out moments/tracks if you feel warrant a mention’
One of our tracks on the mix is Cheeno, we made this almost a year ago now and it only got released a couple of months ago. I love the drums and like Flashmob said ‘Cheeno is a crazy muthafucking track’. Loco Dice also requested a WAV of it which is cool https://soundcloud.com/vibekillers/vibe-killers-cheeno-kvr002. The last track on there is one we literally just finished the day before we recorded the mix, love the acid sounds on that one: https://soundcloud.com/vibekillers/vibe-killers-peakin-sample
We do love a classic here at UpFrontBeats. Are there any classics you would like to share with us’ Or have been playing any recently’
Although its not a ‘classic’ as in released 20 years ago, its got a classic sound to it: Ron Trent & Chez Damier ‘ Untitled. Love everything about this track, the bass, the vocals, the hi hats, the pads ‘ T U N E! https://www.youtube.com/watch’v=rERfWXnFVGc
What’s in store for 2016′ Are there any upcoming gigs, tracks or collaborations we should know about’
We got a couple of releases lined up on our own label, a gig at Ministry of Sound in March and a few more bits and bats in the pipeline. Looking forward to it all.
