We were absolutely hooked! We used to buy the Future Music magazine every single month keeping up to date with every new equipment, artist and release out there and with lots of dedication to the music we managed to expand our studio and eventually improved our productions.

I’ve been involved in many music projects over the years and I can safely say that my biggest break was my debut EP ‘Dance To The House’ that came out in 2016. I sent a few demos to Steve Lawler which he started playing and then later released as an EP on VIVa Limited. Needless to say that it was a dream come true!

The thing that has driven me the most into taking a career in electronic music is simply the love for it. My life literally revolves around the studio and I’ve always been fixated with analog synthesisers and drum machines. Analog gear is definitely my biggest turn on.

Over the last year, you’ve built up quite a catalogue of weapons, but which release are you most proud of and why’

Definitely my ‘Everyday’ EP on Moon Harbour Recordings. The response has been absolutely overwhelming so far, as the main idea was to create something different than the norm with this release. Moon Harbour has always been one of my favourite labels and this EP was especially made for them.

You’re set to release the ‘G-Funk’ EP on Matthias Tanzmann’s Moon Harbour this February, how did the three-track project come about and what was the thought process behind the EP.

I sent a few demos to Matthias for an upcoming release that they have scheduled which he liked so we decided to put these out as a second EP. The idea was to make a sequel to my ‘Everyday’ EP but this time around focus more on the groove, create an old school vibe while taking into consideration the Moon Harbour trademark sound.

As well as your own releases, you’ve build up quite a reputation for producing killer remixes for some of the biggest names around. Given the opportunity, is there a classic track you would particularly like to remix and why’ Does the track hold any memories’

Oh man! I would love to remix ‘Music Sounds Better With You’ by Stardust. This track brings back so many memories and powerful emotions. I remember listening to it on MTV when I was younger and spent most of my best summers listening to that song.

UpFrontBeats has you down as one to watch in 2018, can you let us into some of your plans’ Any notable releases or remixes ahead’ Any exclusives’

Aw, thanks so much for that. I have two EPs coming up, one on WOW! Recordings and another one on Criminal Hype. One remix on Piem’s forthcoming ‘Vision Of Paradise’ EP, another track on Moon Harbour’s ‘Inhouse Vol.8’ compilation and another track which I’ve exclusively made for Elrow Music. Can’t wait to share these with everyone.

Recently, we’ve had an influx of super tracks which are set to be released over the coming months, but are there any tracks you’ve been playing recently that deserve a mention’

I am really digging ‘Readme’ by Rui-Z at the moment, this has been a serious weapon in my sets. ‘Why’ by Prok & Fitch has also been one of my favourite’s lately as well as Green Velvet & Mason Maynard’s ‘Auto Mate’.

You’re down to play Twisted Fusion’s 3rd Birthday at London’s Lightbox this March, what can be expect when they come to hear you play’ How do you go about creating the perfect set’ Any secrets’

Groovy beats, repetitive spoken riffs and rumbling bass lines! It all depends on the set times though, opening a room is a whole different ball game compared to playing a headline set, or a closing set for that matter. Creating the perfect set requires an expansive collection of music to choose from and searching for music repeatedly is definitely a part of it.

Talking production, how do you like to begin a project’ Any particular plug-in you swear by’ Anything you plan to purchase to strengthen your arsenal and why’

I always begin with the drums and then move on to the bass line, a solid groove is essential. After that I do the arrangement and begin adding the elements, vocals and designer effects. Last part is always the mixing process. I really dig Sylenth1 and Diva for creating bass lines and Native Instruments’ Battery for compiling my own drum kits. Back in the day we needed tons of hardware to create tracks but with today’s technology a laptop can be sufficient. It all depends on the sound you would like to create and identify yourself with though.

In three words, can you describe the perfect track’

Stripped back beats.

We’re super excited to bring our readers an exclusive mix from yourself, but what should they be listening out for and how did you go about putting the mix together’

On this mix I’ve basically tried to bring the vibe I create on the dance floor by offering my current and latest sounds. As I got older I picked up on House music and Trance through listening to my parent’s CD’s from the covers of Mixmag and DJ Mag which I still have to this day. From reading the articles in the magazines I picked up on labels Strictly Rhythm, Polydor and a few others that are still well known to date. So we demo’d off to Under No Illusion Recordings our track ‘Deeper Things’ and it was accepted for their Sonar Sampler. From the support we gained off the release with the other music we had, I asked CDC would they be down for remixing for us; they agreed so we sent YAYA Records the Lost Memories Ep. The release charted into the Top 20 Beatport Tech House Releases and was supported by Skream, Joris Voorn, Marco Carola and got features from DJ Mag Tech House and Roger Sanchez on his show ‘Release Yourself’.

As the summer draws to a close, can you explain to us how you plan to spend the darker month’s’ What’s in store in terms of Djing and production’

I will definitely be spending most if not all my time in the studio getting music ready for labels and for the summer. Thank you, that means a lot. Actually, we’ve officially been making music together since 2014. We met a year before in Amsterdam and it just felt right, we had both been infatuated with electronic music since we can remember, so it was a logical step. You could say it all started because we felt like there was something we could add to the musical landscape, you know’ In the studio we just start it all out by having a good conversation about what we want to achieve with this particular track. Is it going to be a dancefloor bomb’ Or more of a groover’ From there we find a solid kick, build tight percussion layers and then flesh that out. Karin is really great at writing bomb bass lines while Ty is usually banging out the melody lines. The vocals we use are usually the result of hours of digging through many audio resources, looking for clean, interesting stuff that could work well in our tracks. Being picky is key here!

Your next EP sees you release ‘Tales of Light’ on Resonance Records, can you explain to us the thought process that goes into a EP like that. Where do you begin’ Why Resonance Records’

Resonance has always been one of our favourite labels, so it was a joyful moment when we heard that the guys liked our tunes. Resonance stands for this groovy, weighty house & techno sound that we’re really fond of, so it was definitely a logical step for us. The ‘Tales Of Light EP’ is all about storytelling, which you don’t see done that often in this particular way. ‘Crazy Joe’ is about Joe Gallo, a notorious mobster who terrorized NY in the 1900s, so with this tune we really wanted to go all out and make it an unruly, thumping banger. The other tune, ‘Piglet Booty’, let’s just say it’s an account of a freaky lil’ lady who loves to go clubbing and scam men, a Joanne The Scammer kinda girl. With this one we were out to create an dirty, wonky belter that could easily unravel dancefloors at 4am.

Your record collection has been growing exponentially, but what was has been your personal favourite and why’ Any tracks hold fond memories’

K: Ooh there are too many! One of my alltime favourites is ‘Gone Too Long’ by Him_Self_Her. Still sounds great now as it did a few years back!

T: Anything released by Ed Banger over the last decade or so, all those Justice, Uffie, Feadz and DJ Mehdi, Riton etc tunes were epic. Mad love for DJ Mehdi’s ‘Stick It’ till today.

It was so sad to hear about the death of Robert Miles. Children was a staple feature throughout the 90’s and will remain an all time classic. What has been your favourite track over the years’ Has anyone in particular inspired you through your musical journey’

T: Quite sad indeed, it’s a shame to see people go before their time. Underworld’s ‘Born Slippy .NUXX’ is a big favourite, it’s just nuts, from the vocals to the energy, what a belter.

K: Inspiration wise, no doubt it’s Catz n Dogz. It’s just great to see them reinvent themselves and push out something super fresh with every new release. It’s definitely something we strive to do as well.

The summer season has official started, but where can we catch you girls spinning this summer’ Any locations, venues or festivals you enjoy playing the most’

We’re currently locked away in the studio, the focus is on building a massive repertoire so we’re going to be able to tour and meet up with our fans all over the world – it’s a key goal for us right now. But we’re definitely not in any rush. Some dream gigs are festivals like Coachella, Burning Man, clubs like DC10, Panorama Bar, Egg London, and of course that huge Resistance spider stage at WMC! Having said that, make sure you keep an eye on our Facebook page for some major announcements.

Over the last couple of years, has seen you release tracks on some of the biggest labels around; which includes Flashmob Records and Roush Records. But, what can we expect to hear this summer’ Any weapons in the pipeline’ Any exclusives’

We have our much buzzed about single ‘Feelin” coming out on Lapsus this June 9th. This track has been getting rinsed by Santรฉ & Sidney Charles since January 2017, with further support incoming from Hector Couto, Yousef, Luca Donzelli, Roland Clark, Max Chapman and more. Then, our three track EP comes out on Smiley Fingers on July 21st, it’s shaping up to be a massive one. It’s going to be another great addition to an immensely successful 2017 for us and our project. There’s also our debut EP coming on Roush later this year, that’s your exclusive right there! It’s going to be a three track EP and we’ve already received support from the likes of Detlef and Jacky on it, so that’s just already blowing our minds. Both the Smiley and Roush EPs will represent a totally new side of us you guys haven’t heard yet, so the excitement is real. There are definitely some other developments we can’t announce yet. But big things are coming up for sure, and we’re really happy and thankful with how things are going at the minute.

It must be fantastic playing and writing music with your best friend, but if you had to say, how would you describe each others best qualities and their worst’ Lol.

Haha! To be completely honest, we’re probably the most impatient, driven, demanding and annoying people to ever work together, so we’ve just accepted that fate and use it to our advantage. Sometimes we really lose our patience when we need to wait on others, so we usually prefer to take matters into our own hands. We got to where we are by working our asses off 24/7 and giving 200% all the time, so there’s no cutting corners with us at all. Guess you could say we’ve become a well-oiled machine, working together is an absolute blessing and being able to get things done on your own terms is a great little feeling, we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Can you identify a particular piece of software or hardware that enjoy working with and why’ Any advice for aspiring artists’

Currently we’re kinda obsessed with Valhalla’s Plate and SpaceModulator plugins. We frequently use iZotope’s Neutron, which is a mixing plugin, but we use it to make synths sound really gritty and freaky. Best tips we can give: don’t EVER give up, make LOTS of music, don’t be a perfectionist, don’t spend all your money on hardware (unless you’re really going to use it a lot), study up on some basic music theory, and if you want something, go for it fully. Give it everything you got, it really is the only way.

Can you explain to us how you went about creating the mix and is their anything in particular we should be listening out for’

Yes, this mix has got to be one of our favourites so far! When we do these, we want to serve a BGWG club set, but also explore some avenues we might not always get the chance to hit up in our DJ sets. So we created the mix with that in mind, as well as wanting to showcasing some of our favourite tunes at the minute. And as you guys are all about the exclusives, we’ve mixed three of our unreleased tracks in there, so that is a biggie! Can’t dish too many details about them yet, but just know that these tracks are not even going to be out for another 5-6 months.. You have been in the game for some time now, since starting out what differences have you noticed, and how has your sound evolved to what it is today’

My sound has changed a lot over the years, and it is a natural process, just like the way life naturally evolves and matures. Music keeps step with this process and you always hear it when you listen to your last completed work. Therefore, the quality grows at the same pace as the person, and completed works in the studio evolve record after record.

5. I have been following his work for his labels Crosstown Rebels and Rebellion for a long time, and I really appreciate the incredible quality they express. The working process when making a record is the same I have used for years now, conceiving the idea and developing it with maximum attention to details of the groove ‘ synths ‘ bass ‘ vocals. I met Damian at a party in Tuscany; I shared some of the projects I had in a drawer with him, and I was truly happy that he liked them, just as I am so happy to be part of the Crosstown Rebels family and to work with an artist of his stature.

6. You have also released on Seths Troxlers infamous ‘Play it say it’ and Steve bugs Audiomatique Recordings. For the Rowee sound how do you go about selecting the labels you wish to release on.

I don’t really select labels, and I prefer to compare myself to artists who I respect musically, like Damian Lazarus, Steve Bug, for example. That’s where all the collaborations, releases and remixes start.

7. It must be very rewarding to see the likes of Jamie Jones, Seth Troxler and Damian Lazarus supporting your tracks and playing them to the masses of fans. Could you tell us what emotions you feel when you have heard them play your records.

The support I have received over the years from Damian Lazarus, Jamie Jones, Seth Troxler, and Lee Foss, just to name a few, has been important and above all rewarding, in light of the sacrifices made in the studio. Seeking quality in what you do while comparing yourself to other artists is the foundation for growth in a musical sense.

8.
