Newsam Park is a game-changing two-day festival with two distinctive stages. It all goes down in the heart of the scenic Temple Newsam Park, where 1500 acres of rolling green hills and lush woodland can be explored, with the historic Temple Newsam house at the heart of it all. But for two days only, a secret corner of this perfectly manicured landscape will become a unique adult playground’
The festival has a widescreen cultural outlook with five pillars that will define it: Music, Sound, Feast, Natural and Art Installation. This means art and sculpture will add to the musical immersion, while fine food from bespoke local traders will keep you powered throughout the day. The production will be out of this world and stage designs will be as immersive as they are stimulating, with world class sound from large, newly designed and finely tuned Funktion One systems on each. Running from early afternoon until long after the sun has spectacularly set behind the hills, expect the mood of the music to suit the ever-evolving atmosphere and make for a truly dynamic and different experience.
The soundtrack has been carefully assembled by a team of long time music loving experts who know the scene inside out. First of the two stages is The Garden which, on Saturday, will be headlined by Cocoon founder and global techno icon Sven Vath, plus famously eclectic selector Gerd Janson who runs the cult Running Back label. FUSE’s Enzo Siragusa has a famously stripped back dub tech sound, minimal house duo Claus Voigtmann and John Dimas aka Voigt.mas also bring classy grooves, and long time Leeds legends and trusty residents Annie Errez and Bobby O’Donnell complete this stage.
On Saturday, The Lake welcomes the one and only Detroit icon that is Moodymann, a maverick who lays down house music like no other, and singular Scottish party starter Denis Sulta will also serve up plenty of curveballs. Local hero turned global figurehead Nightmares on Wax brings his wordly mix of funk, house, downtempo and soul, then contemporary house tastemakers Dan Shake and Warehouse Music man Mella Dee close things out.
On Sunday, The Garden heads down a path littered with deep digging selectors from the cutting edge. Hunee will bring music with love from the worlds of soul, funk, house, disco and techno, while Dekmantel associate Palms Trax joins the dots between many different forms of house with real dexterity. Few push the boundaries of DJing as far as Call Super, whose bend of techno, electro and IDM will leave you in a spin. Add in a tireless record collector who plays across the spectrum in Young Marco, fast rising Bristol star Danielle and Annie Errez, and you have a wonderful day of real music.
Sunday at The Lake is all about slick and stripped back grooves. Few do those sounds better than cult minimalists Ricardo Villalobos and Raresh, who go back to back for an epic session, as do Fuse and Desolat label heads Loco Dice and Enzo Siragusa. The trio of b2bs is completed with dub tech titans Archie Hamilton and Rossko, with mobile Berlin record store owners and masters of spaced out breaks, house and techno The Ghost rounding things out next to Bobby ODonnell.
