Eastern Electrics Review

Interview | 16.08.2016

Over the past five years, the majestic Hatfield House has been providing the setting for one of the UK’s most vibrant music festivals. This was our second outing at Eastern Electrics and as if we thought things couldn’t get any better.

The strong line up, which included the likes of Seth Troxler, The Martinez Brothers, Steve Lawler, Eats Everything, Kölsch, Groove Armada and Skream. These international super stars provided the essential ingredients for 17,000 underground music enthusiasts to enjoy a special summers day. As always, UpFrontBeats are huge fans of the way Eastern Electrics go about their business and providing the ultimate festival experience; from the layout of the site, to the paying system, everything just works.

We headed down, for around 12 in the afternoon, and settled into the main stage, where there was a change to the schedule. Unfortunately, to our disappointment, Do Not Sleep’s Darius Syrossian had been delayed. Never the less, we stuck around for Hot Creations’ front man Richy Ahmed. A large crowd had gathered, in anticipation, for the Hot Creation crowd pleaser. Ahmed’s style, certainly lifted the atmosphere. With them catchy house numbers, Ahmed provided a platform to play the unreleased ‘Superstylin’ remix by Riva Starr, delighting the thousands of spectators which were revealing in the golden sunshine.

Meanwhile, adjacent to the main stage, Denny was doing his thing for Steve Lawler and the ViVa Warriors stage. Energetic and high tempo’d, Denny was on top form, playing a selection of his own recent releases on Crosstown Rebels. Denny had set the tone early for things to come. One of the highlights, was when Denny managed to squeeze in Latmun’s twist on Green Velvet’s ‘Flash’.

As expected, Eats Everything delivered a no nonsense set on the main stage. Big beats resonated through the speakers, with Patrick Topping’s ‘Dem A Pree’ causing all sorts of trouble on a hot summers day.

As day turned into night, the evening provided a busy schedule. We found ourselves at the front of the switch yard, where the excellent Kölsch had just began his set. The new addition to the Radio One family, who is well known for his productions, blessed the crowd with them melodic, emotion induced cuts. Dropping an array of his own productions, which included the hugely popular ‘Goldfisch’ and his massive rework of Damian Lazarus & The Ancient Moon’s ‘Trouble at the Séance’. With his set peaking, Kölsch decided to remind people of the Ibiza summer classic ‘Finally’ by Kings of Tomorrow, which instantly lifted the atmosphere and paved the way for Groove Armada to bring their dance floor cuts to the Switch Yard.

We decided to stay put, letting Groove Armada finish a fantastic day at Eastern Electrics. Magic, can all be used to describe their night time set. Lasers and smoke cannons, Eastern Electrics provided excellent production value which accompanied their set well. The boys didn’t disappoint, with their classic Groove Armada anthems infused with upfront house and techno, the ending was truly special.

Having attended a number of festival throughout the UK, we can honestly say that consistency matters and building on from last year’s success. Eastern Electrics have just done that, building and making this year’s line up one of the best we’ve seen this summer at a UK event. It may not be the biggest festival in terms of capacity but the one-day event really doesn’t disappoint. The star studded lineup and the added treat of warm weather, made this one of our summer highlights.

As always, a fantastic occasion to be involved with. We would just like to say a special thank you to Eastern Electrics, who made us feel extremely welcome. We hope Eastern Electrics gets bigger and better next year, and we can’t wait to return.

Congratulations on another momentous day.
