Culprit’s Spanish producer contingent grows one stronger with the addition of AFFKT to the LA imprint’s family. Marc Martinez Nadal, aka AFFKT, joins a handful of artists – Edu Imbernon, Uner, Henry Saiz, Pablo Bolivar and El_Txef A – who have contributed to Culprit’s identity over the years. The label is fast becoming home away from home for Iberian artists. AFFKT’s contribution fits into this tradition of superbly produced melodic house with his “Manifesto”
AFFKT is a prolific artist, getting his start through hometown Valencia’s famous dance music brand, Barraca, a decade ago. Since then, he’s been on a steady upward trajectory, releasing quality original material on Suara, Kling Klong, Upon You and his own label, Sincopat. His remixing has been particularly in-demand – the likes of John Talabot, Spencer Parker, James Teej, Henry Saiz and many more have gotten the AFFKT treatment.
For his Culprit debut, AFFKT lays down two outstanding tunes. “Manifesto” is a sparkling Electronic House with a rising and falling percolating melodic hook, underpinned by a warm acidic bassline that sits atop a very modern disco-fied beat. A peak time tune! “Gurungudulo” is a more introspective track, with an equally accomplished melody and retro synth textures that builds to an unabashedly euphoric crescendo. This one wouldn’t be out of place in a Sasha set.
Mobilee & Hot Creations’ Igor Vicente takes a completely different route on his remix. Stripped down, dubby, uptempo Villalobos-esque groove gets a subtle melodic infusion half way through before returning to what it does best – moving the dancefloor.
