Caleb Calloway
- The Place EP
Do Not Sleep | 15.05.2017
The newest face to join the illustrious Do Not Sleep imprint is fresh talent Caleb Calloway, with his two track EP ‘The Place’. The Puerto Rican has developed a unique sound, combining tropical influences from his native South America with the New York and Chicago tech-house music he experienced on his travels. A diverse producer, his tracks represent a melting pot of sounds from multiple inspirations, and this EP is no exception, having already received support through early plays from Marco Carola, Loco Dice and The Martinez Brothers.
Opening with the title track, Caleb integrates his signature tropical elements, which are profoundly present in the percussion, with a contrast of bold yet playful vocal sampling, which struts over his cadenced bass line.
The second cut is another punchy Calloway original, showcasing a slick percussive line brimming with lively high hats and a rumbling bass. His unique and varied production style presents us with a dose of groove which is implemented in the main riff, hovering faintly above is a cropped vocal line, a gentle injection of Calloway’s deep-rooted native sound into an otherwise frisky tech-house track.
