Yoyaku favourite Janeret readies the third release on Chris Stussy’s blossoming Up The Stuss imprint as he delivers his four-track ‘Difference’ EP.
A figure at heart of the Parisian scene, DJ, producer and label owner Mickael Jeanneret, aka Janeret, shines today as one of the city’s most revered and exciting house talents. A key member of Paris-based record label, record store and booking agency Yoyaku, known internationally as a flag-bearer of French house and minimal, his rise as one of the scenes most sought-after producers has welcomed material via a slew of the Yoyaku’s numerous sub-imprints through to esteemed labels such as Berg Audio and Rutilance, whilst also heading up his own label, Joule. Up next, early-April sees a fresh addition to his catalogue as he heads to Chris Stussy’s burgeoning Up The Stuss imprint, delivering his exceptional ‘Difference’ EP to mark his debut on the label in style.
The lively and infectious ‘Reminiscence’ opens proceedings as skipping percussion and garage-tinged stabs meet soulful vocal hooks and warming melodies, whilst title cut ‘Difference’ utilises a slick combination of bouncing bass patterns, slinking hats and fluttering vocal effects to offer up a peak-time production packed full of house flavours. On the flip, ‘Fusion’ showcases the Frenchman’s production prowess as he wanders down a hypnotic and dubby path guided by ethereal pads throughout ‘Fusion’, before shaping up a classy journey and welcoming an effortless combination of uplifting organ stabs and swinging percussion via final cut ‘Feelin’.
