Roni Amitai
- Voices EP
Satya | 13.05.2022
Following on from the success of November’s Atman EP last year, Satya continues its release schedule this May with a maiden release from Roni Amitai. The four-track Voices EP includes two remixes from Montreal and Lisbon-based artist Iskra, widely known by his alternative pseudonym: Noha.
‘Voices was created at the very beginning of the pandemic. I found myself experimenting in my studio for days, trying to convert the confusion into creation. We all experienced a new reality of social distancing ‘but inside this tangle I found a lot of space to explore. This EP is a culmination and celebration of the freedom this time gave me.’ – Roni Amitai.
The title track sets the tone, bubbling with subtly-changing synths that showcase the innate, minimal-inspired sound with which Roni has become best known. Poignant vocals live beside looping, low-slung percussion, as the rolling feel of Faded soon arrives: a fast-paced cut packed full of gentle hats and a warming lead bassline. Iskra’s ‘Hold My Tears’ remix then unfurls with a suitably emotive ambience before his ‘Sparks’ remix heightens the tempo, to round off proceedings on a celestial, upbeat note.
Roni Amitai is a multidisciplinary artist exploring movement and sound, creating enveloping compositions and expressive choreographies. Emerging out of Israel’s contemporary dance scene, her debut EP Quiet Can Be was released in October 2021 on NG Trax. She seeks to grow Israel’s underground music community and platform as a co-founder of TERRA festival, Israel’s pre-eminent electronic festival and a member of HALO, a boutique minimal-house collective.
Iskra is a musician like few others in the contemporary electronic music domain. A staggeringly creative individual, he is also a painter of some distinction. Founder of Nabuco Records, his releases under his Noha alias on Giuliano Lomonte’s Point of View, Archie Hamilton’s Moscow and – perhaps most memorably – his collaboration with Alex Tea, Chi Ci Pensa, as Patagonia – firmly established his standing as one of modern minimal’s standout artists.
