Ste Roberts
- The Something About Bamboo EP
Echoe | 27.09.2019
Francesca Lombardo’s Echoe imprint welcomes revered DJ, producer and Hypercolour co-founder Ste Roberts for the first time to deliver an accomplished four track EP.
The Bamboo That Shattered The Glass opens the release. Starting with a meticulously crafted drum pattern, the track develops with celestial synth that creates emotion around the groove. Invasion is firmly aimed at the dance floor, with bustling hi-hats, jacking-acid and sirens full of sci-fi inspiration. Grey Fur sets a warmer, playful tone, with a cut up of the famous sample from Minnie Riperton’s Inside My Love over a bumping bassline. The solid rhythm of One Way Ticket is a hypnotic trip, featuring intricate details and layers that subtly drift in and out.
London’s Ste Roberts is renowned for his ear for music, with an extensive knowledge built up over the years spent working and digging in record stores. Taste making through an impressive catalogue of releases for the renowned Hypercolour, he also hosts the monthly Rinse FM show for the label. His releases can be found on labels such as: Fear or Flying, Initials, Kneaded Pains and his own imprint STE. Roberts will undoubtedly continue his obsessive A&R journey in the coming years, whilst selectively unveiling his fine tuned productions.
