Canadian DJ, producer and label chief Art Department returns to Cassy’s esteemed label with another batch of arresting house cuts.

A veteran of Toronto’s house and techno scene, Barcelona-based Art Department is behind an arsenal of seminal works, including killer remixes for notable producers and a stack of self-releases through his No.19 Music, an imprint that’s fetched records from a string of prominent artists across its steady 12-year run.

“This EP is part of a collection of tracks I recorded before the world was flipped on its head. Finally releasing this record, feels like a step toward things settling down and moving forward, for me and for Cassy I think. I don’t really release original music outside of my own imprints, so it’s always kind of special to work with Kwench, and have a home outside of my own labels to drop no-frills, true to form, house records on.’ – Art Department

The EP opens with ‘D’igualada 2020’, a well-stirred track that slams with a potent, limb-contorting groove slicked up with an ingratiating vocal. ‘Twired’ is a buoyant, heady brew that evokes an intimate playfulness within its whipping drum arrangement and kindling melody. Closing cut ‘Object Form’ is a sweat-inducing roller with a need for speed, offering giddy moments between the thumping bassline and dizzying vocal loops.

Art Department’s ‘The Equalizer’ is set for release on Cassy’s Kwench Records this September.
