London’s Ben Gomori is a name known to most in the industry, due to his acclaimed label Monologues Records, from the events across the UK capital that he has been putting on for around a decade and also his highly engaging and exquisitely curated Turned On podcast radio show. However many people also know him from his slick production skills which have seen him release music on some of the most cultured and coolest labels around, Soul Clap Records, Atjazz Records, SoHaSo, True Romance, Exploited, his own imprint Monologues Records, and Club Bad. He has remixed all manner of high caliber including names such as Dusky, Saytek, Tensnake, Morcheeba, Orchestra Baobab, Amadou Balake and more.

This sublime EP starts off with the mighty ‘Nothing Happens Before 2am’. With a slick analogue and acid feel across the production, this track has its own inimitable style from well worked lead synth sounds combining in harmony with the acid bassline. Then to give this the final touch, Gomori adds a vocal hook to give this a hip-hop feel which delivers a track that is for the heads and for those with a discerning ear.

Track 2 could equally be the lead track such is a unique style and quality. ‘Acid Onsen’ kicks off with jungle calls from the get go just so you know something big is in coming, and then it arrives. The bassline comes in with power and its own unique style. The arrangement is ever so subtle yet ever evolving and before you know it you’ve reached the second drop and you arms are in the air with a smile on your face. Gomori’s style is one of being anything but generic and this fully shines through on this EP, which will stand loud and proud among the many tracks released every day as there really are none that sound like these!
